Porfiry petrovitch is considered the first psychoanalyst in russian literature. In crime and punishment, raskolnikov refuses to sume direct or personal responsibility for the murder. He tells sonya, did i really kill the old woman? No, it was myself i killed. And on another occasion, he says, it wasn't a human being i killed. It was a principle. So, er sara, do you think that he ever does actually repent, not really thinks about it, but he never gets there in the novel itself?
