Most organisms live in a multi-sensory world, and research has shown that experiences that involve different senses can improve memory strength. Studies have suggested that when you're making memories about something using multiple senses, the different parts of the brain involved with those senses will all be working. It seems that interactions happen between these areas, which increases the strength of a memory. And later on if one sensory part of that memory gets activated, say, the smell part, other sensory memories, say, visual ones, can be activated too.
