The Bridge Lands Like a Ton of Bricks
The song is constantly playing with perspective and oce. It goes from straightforward present tents in some of the verses, i got 25 bucks and a cracker,. Do you think that's enough? Then it gets conditional. What if i'm a mermaid? And here on the bridge kind of flashes forward through time? The narrator stays in the conditional and begins imagining her life of silence played out. Think ther's a heaven. A screams. Av got ik, a 25 bu craik, think its tatema.
Tori Amos was one of the most distinctive songwriters of the 90s, and remains a powerful musical voice decades later. "Silent All These Years," one of many strong singles off of her 1992 solo debut, is a perfect encapsulation of so many of the things that make her music special.
