The Importance of Collective Action in Higher Education

In 2016, I was part of the faculty at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus that was subject to a lockout. It was the first lockout in the history of higher education in the United States. They wouldn't let us on campus. They locked us out of our email, replaced us with people they found on monster.com and paid like $15 an hour. And so if we can understand that like fighting for the library is fighting for everybody and for all of us, that seems like part of the project for me.
