Ettory's Depression

In 1933, an American physicist named Carl Anderson claimed to have discovered the positron. Ettory was the more popular scientist at the time and a number of his peers believed him over Dirac. By all accounts, Ettory didn't have much to feel down about. He quickly fell into a deep depression. His strong scientific instinct, which he had once thought was infallible, had failed him.
