China's Ambitions for the World's Sea Beds
China's official news agency says that it's exploring what it calls the treasure map of the deep sea. Tiffany Ma, senior director of Bau Group Asia, and Tabitha Mallory, founder of China Ocean Institute talk to CNN about Beijing's ambitions. They say there are a lot of different resources in the deep sea bed - copper, nickel, zinc, lead, manganese, cobalt, lithium, atrium, diamonds, platinum, gold, and silver. But they also point out some trade-offs when we think about where we're going to get these resources as inputs for new technologies.
