Themistocles' Speech to the Spartans
Before he had left, Themistocles gave the Athenians instructions to start building a wall with whatever they could find. The entire population pitched in to build this patchwork wall with much haste. Of course, this endeavor couldn't be kept a secret for long and word soon enough reached the Spartans. Sparta was forced to accept all of these happenings in Athens because realistically there was nothing they could do about it.
