Is Give Well Really Effective Altruism?

You were talking more broadly about effective altruism and critiquing the kind of give well style of health people which is funding charities. You write that polls by Gallup and Afro-barometer suggest that poor people in Africa, their priorities lie elsewhere. Is your view that people in places like Africa aren't interested in the kinds of interventions that give well offers? I'm sure they're interested in anti-malarial bed nets. But what you said is more fundamental that I think giving aid in other countries from outside is almost always a mistake.
