A Brief History of Dream Magic

The collection of Greco-Egyptian spells known as the Greek magical papari contains all manner of spells and rituals, some of which are aimed at obtaining dreams. In ancient sources we find it in native Egyptian magic going pretty far back. There's an intriguing and cryptic passage in the Roman satirist juvenile who tells us that Jewish women could be found on the open market places of Rome who could sell you any dream you wanted. I've always thought that this was a reference to a form of dream magic.
