Aaron Burr, the Former Vice President of the United States

The Spanish strictly controlled the Santa Fe trade, but American merchants eyed the market as ripe for exploitation. Burr wanted to invade what is now Texas in New Mexico and possibly even take control of the key American port of New Orleans. He envisioned setting up his own nation, perhaps even sweeping up all of Mexico as well.
