California's guidelines for assisted suicide require terminally ill adults to be physically able to ingest the drug on their own. The swallowing thing was something that came up a lot in emails that I got from readers after my piece ran. One person named Mark wrote me just the loveliest, longest email about helping his father die. He did not have doctor's permission to pursue this path.
