The Importance of Periodizing Workload

It can take up to a year to mineralize the bone through after as you say a four month bone cell remodeling phase. The best thing to do is to not specialize too early, or ever really. Bones won't keep putting on more bone mass if they're adequately adapted for the exercise you're doing so if you want to make your bones stronger you have to be something else. Different kinds of loading are key - hockey, playing tennis, playing volleyball, basketball, squash and things that require agility,. All of that is loading your bones differently from just straight running in a straight line.
