Dr Rob Tel Nijay-Paley is an assistant professor in international social and public policy at LSE. He conceptualises citizenship as identities, practices and sets of relationships that are passive, active and interactive respectively. Citizenship might warrant a one-line dictionary definition, the legal right to belong to a country to steal from one. But he says it is anything but that simple, encompassing issues of law, economics, politics and identity.
