The Odyssey, the Demonstration of Self Preservation

In the Odyssey, odysseus dupes the gods through many fake sacrifices. To do so implies a sort of deification of the sacrificial victim. If they were just an average joe, there would be nothing special about sacrificing them. And we can see this attachment to individuality play out as well in logics of capitalism.
