The Moral Importance of the Neurological System in Primates

As we go down the evolutionary scale there's a kind of point where it doesn't really make that much difference because the kinds of pain that a prawn or a shrimp is going to feel aren't going to be so morally relevant. If we're talking about eating primates they're so close to human beings that you can see the deprivation of the good of their life is really significant. Free range eggs I think are different matters certainly the egg itself has no moral status the only question is whether harm is being done to the chicken in the production of the egg. It's possible to extract eggs from chickens in this way without causing them undue suffering and without prematurely ending their lives.
