Gloria Borger: I want to read a section from your book that summarizes so much of the themes in the book. When i first left home, i was just trying to escape home. And i signed up for a ballet class because i was always really interested in ballet and would see ballet dancers on public television. You know, every single voice that i had heard in my head to tell me what i wasn't supposed to be, became really loud. But you can't live in regret. The only thing that i can do is try to be that person going forward.
Brian Broome is a poet, screenwriter, and instructor in the Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been a finalist in The Moth storytelling competition and won the grand prize in Carnegie Mellon University’s Martin Luther King’s Writing Awards.
