The Importance of Drawing Stories
When I'm drawing stories, which are mostly abstract shapes that I am getting this opportunity to learn something about the story's structure. And even if I'm only communicating it to myself, that experience allows me to sort of get deeper and potentially get unstuck. But there might be a geometry that's coming out of those drawings that doesn't feel like it's the geometry that I want to go for in the story. Generally what I find is that the shape is not harmonious after the first draft, that there's something about that shape in the story that needs more attention.
