What Takes Roosevelt West and What Does It Do to You?
The move out West is a personal move, but it's one that frames a lot of his ideas of society. For him, it's very much about making a career as a rancher, which he's terrible at. It's about finding the solitude to discover oneself and to try and mend the scars of his traumas. What he sees out there in the West are people that he can relate to that are literally on the boundaries of the frontier trying to craft American democracy in a place that doesn't exist yet.
