Adorno thinks dialectic can be detached in some way from the specificities of individual concepts. For Hegel, at least on my reading, there is no generic dialectic that sort of floats free of the specific categories. Adorno often plays off non-identity against identity. I mean, obviously, he's not going to deny that identity is an important concept and it plays an important role in our world. But it's a problem for Adorno. It's something we've got to be suspicious of."
