The Women's War in Ireland
Women and girls were referred to the laundries by industrial and reformatory schools, social workers, and sometimes psychiatric hospitals. Some police say that when they got a call that there was an inmate escaped from a Magdalene Laundry, that the older sergeant in the barracks would say, just put on the kettle there and we'll see if the poor girl can make it to the boat.
