Mongols continued traditions of patronage familiar to us from the Abbasid Caliphate and Seljukhs. They patronized Sunni theologians, astronomers, experts in logic but also deeply learned religious scholars. Most unexpected of all, they were sometimes Christians. One scholar who worked at Maraka was known as Bar Hebraeus.
