CHAPTER

The History of Yugoslavia

Yugoslavia, meaning South Slavic land, was created in the aftermath of the First World War with the Treaty of Versailles. Tito ruled Yugoslavia with an iron fist, suppressing nationalist hate that emerged during the second world war. His slogan was brotherhood and unity, and he was determined to preserve Yugoslavia as a multi-ethnic communist state.
