Is There a Pattern in What You're Doing?

Li: We have gone through this process of sitting down together and trying to understand what tools we have in machine ling that might be helpful for maths. And getting a better understanding of what mathematicians do, which was a bit of a journey for me. The best metaphor i've come up with so far is that doing mathematics at school is kind of like learning how to play scales when you're playing music. It's not creative andits it's kind of repetative and a little bit boring. But then you see as pianists, and they're really good, and what they're doing mostly is not the technical part. They're doing this creative part.
