The Battle of the Booby Trap
In one two month period, a single marine company lost 57 legs to mines and booby traps. The shrapnel could cut men in half, take off limbs rip off jawbones. One day a man from the us Ninth cavalry stepped on a bouncing betty but he managed to stop fractions of a second before it could explode. Only the heel of his boot was damaged. Eventually, the men from his platoon just tie a rope around his waist and yank him hard as they can and as fast as they can away from the mine.
