Joyce: The father, in a certain sense, is the son, and in another sense, isn't the sun. Just as the image of god is said to be present in all of us, so is the face of the artist present in all his characters. Joyce comes to his development of from a very learned catholic phosician,. I say he was learned in catholic theology. And it comes up particularly clearly in chapter three of ulysses.
