The History of Dietary Supplement Regulation
In the 1980s, a supplement called L-Trip Defan became popular. There soon began to be reports of people having these weird symptoms that eventually ended up destroying some people's lives. At least 38 people died in the wake of this incident. It seemed like it might be another elixir sulfonomide moment, another tragedy that would lead to a tightening of regulations for supplements. But that is not what happened.
