In the 1860s, a group of brokerage firms came together and they hired Kellum to build this Italian palazzo style building that was evidently quite beautiful. But after each of these panics, it should be added, there was a huge prosperity. The stock market started to really blossom. In 1886, they had their first one million share day. By the 1890s, it was a huge boom. Trading enlisted stocks tripled between 1896 and 99. Several delays and a $4 million price tag later, the new one was built on April 22nd, 1903,.
