There are two parts to the chips act. The first is to bring back so to speak manufacturing high-end manufacturing semi-conded manufacturing back into the US. We should of course not forget Intel because when we talk about semi-conductor manufacturing we keep talking about TSMC.Intel has made some pretty bold promises where they're going to essentially leapfrog almost four nodes which is a technology generation in semi-cond conductor manufacturing. They're going to leapfrog four nodes in five years but that is a big leap of faith and nobody knows how that will turn out.
Big-money legislation to bring microprocessor manufacturing to the country is off to a reasonable start—but dominance of the industry is and will probably remain distant.
