Don't Expect Your Candidate to Solve the Problem
I feel like people just go into those interviews with the wrong idea of what you're looking for. The technical screens that I've been giving for probably 10 years now, and I've bounced between two because I got really bored. You don't expect them to solve it. They're supposed to fail at this. It's not an expensive fail. There's certain levels of success that you've looked for. Definitely don't encourage outright failure, but mistakes are good. Debugging is good. This is sort of like the hit or miss of you can have a lot of fun with a candidate, and you can both be riffing back and forth on the problem,. Or they get incredibly nervous
