i think it's important to remember that decades before attila came along, the romans and the huns had this uneasy but oddly codependent relationship. The kings who perhaps did the most to set the stage for attila were a pair of brothers named ruga, sometimes called rugola and octar. In hun's society, the co kingship shared between two brothers was somewhat common. This style of shared kingship will define attila's early years.
