ICYMI: What Is the Point of Prayer? Does It Change God’s Mind? (John C. Peckham)

The Biblical Mind

CHAPTER

Introduction

If god's will is already decreed, then what sense does it make to ask him for things? i think there is a very strong current throughout scripture where we are invited or instructed to offer our petitions to god in a way that gives the impression they might actually make a ference with regard to god's action. How that makes sense hinges on what we say at a number of other levels. We don't want to say we pray to god to inform him, because god knows everything already. Nothing we would pray would give him more. And we also don’t want to say that we pray in a waythat makes god want to bless us or do good things in the world
