In 1945 a Dutch meteorologist, CHD boy's ballot. Conducted a simple yet brilliant experiment to demonstrate the Doppler effect. He positioned trumpeters on a train platform and another band of trumpeters aboard a train to pass them by. By the way, the original Doppler Effect was described just a couple of years earlier in 1842.
