My paternal grandfather, Von Grunvig, was a great influence in my life. At age 17 during World War II, he chose to join the United States Navy. During his military service, he regularly sent money home to help support his grandmother. His grandmother decided not to use the money herself and saved it under a mattress. Later, after returning home, his grandmother found that someone had stolen the money.
