The novel does not have the same cultural force that it once did. There's just no arguing with that. That doesn't mean there's not an audience. But it certainly does not have any of the standard means within which you access kind of the writing world. The Chinese room really, really puts it out front and center. It's the Chinese room experiment, it's thought experiments on my mind.
