The Role of Gut Reactions in Moral Progress

There are two different kinds of moral problems. There is the problem of getting individuals to get along in a group, the tragedy of the commons and me versus us. When it comes to treating other people well, am I going to be selfish? Or will I do the nice thing for the other people in my world? For most people, their gut reactions about that are pretty good. We all know that people can be very selfish. But people at least have moral instincts that make them pretty good in that way.
