How Long Do You Spend on a Book?
I keep a diary literally chronological diary which now again is is on the computer it's just a file and when I have an idea I write it down. Each book takes a different amount of time I guess so if I think of the Europeans which was my last sort of properly you know archival research book I tried to string it out for as long as possible but I was working on that for several years before the shape of the book came into being. The Russians have this term the Zamuistle the concept if you like and I think that's the first thing that has to come to you for a bookYou can't go into actually planning and writing a book before you got the Zamu
