Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat as the vice president, brings not only a lot of voters from the left being a Democrat, but she's a woman. That whole ticket produces what it seems Americans have been wanting for a long time now: somebody in the middle. The last time was in 1864 when Lincoln picked Andrew Johnson. He kicked Hannibal Hamlin off the ticket and added Andrew Johnson mostly to appeal to a constituency in the South that Lincoln was never going to appeal to.
