Cahal was a deeply patriotic person. He wanted to be the don quixote of spanish science, without the disillusionment at the end of the book, a gusah. So he really wanted to elevate spain didn't have a reputation of science. It's mostly like warriors, kings, philosophers and artists. And internationally, there was a lot of bias against spSpanish science and spaniards. They were seen as exotic and not serious. Was sort of almost like someone planting a flagf what was called the neuron doctrine in these different areas of the brain. Most scientists still believe that somehow the brain gives rise to our experience of life.
