David Deutsch: Why was a Constructive Theory of Information necessary in the first place? It arose out of several motivations initially just from Constructive Theory itself. We needed to formulate rigorous concepts of things like measurement and possibility that didn't rely on existing, on quantum theory. He says it will be usable as a criterion for whether a proposed theory is reasonable.
This is my interview with David Deutsch, Visiting Professor of physics at the Centre for Quantum Computation, the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford University and an Honorary Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford. We discuss the constructor theory of information, some of its conjectured principles, the unification of classical and quantum information, and more.
