The Importance of Securitization
Minsky was the first academic economist to write about securitization. He predicted that virtually everything can be securitized, and what has happened is that virtually all kinds of loans are securitized. The student loans, credit card debt, auto related debt, and even very exotic things becomesecuritized. But then you have banks like Silicon Valley who decided to hold those things. Their problem does not seem to be the quality of the mortgage backed securities. What came back to haunt them was the interest rate risk. That's a fundamental problem of securitizing.
