How Do You Solve the Problem of Summer to Winter Storage?
Winter consumption of electricity in the UK is currently about, on average, 8 gigawatts higher than summer consumption. One approach is to build salt cabins and fill them up with hydrogen. The amount of that required is pretty mind-boggling because if you integrate that 8 gigawatts by 200 days, you end up with terawatt 16 terawatt sort at current consumption rate. That's really large. My calculation is that would take something like 160 of the largest salt cabins, 500,000 cubic meter salt cabins at running at 200 bar. I think it's a ridiculous concept.
