A professor of comparative literature. He defines literary analysis multiple times throughout the book. I found it very helpful, but i think it's kind of best illustrated if we just dive into some of the conventions that he uncovers. One of my favourites was convention and type scene. And so this is something jonathan and i have talked about. But alter has a very different take.
