The Atakama Desert
The atakama desert may be the oldest desert on earth, and has experienced its extreme clim for at least the last three million years. The winds that blow up the coast of chile and peru are cold winds from the antarctic, parched of any moisture by the sub zero conditions of the pole. Many common plants were domesticated and farmed in these valleys, which receive virtually no rainfall. This was one of the last stops on humanity's journey of more than 30 thousand kilometers from the deserts of ethiopia.
