He'd recite Edgar Allan Poe poems to us around the fire. He did love magical realism and he loves sort of these Gothic stories. And then again, you know, because we had this emphasis on storytelling. So I was eight years old and reading biographies of Genghis Khan and Robert E. Lee kind of other figures in the American frontier imagination.
