First commercially successful patent for a suit case with wheels was first came in 19 72. Suit cases with wheels were not common until late 19 eighties, early 19 nineties. The industry assumed that wheels with wheels on suit cases would never sell because they thought of ther consumers as almost exclusively men. There was this idea that no man would ever roll a suit case. It was considered unmanly. And these ideas about this gender buyers was was actually the main reason why the industry didn't see the potential of this product. Now i think most people probably will say that a suit case is more associated with a business man wife than a woman. Soit has really changed.
