The Adam Clark Bible Commentary and the Book of Mormon
In an essay, Joseph Smith said he would try to fit any evidence into his "principle" that the book of Abraham and the Book of Mormon is true. Recent scholarship has found a link between the Adam Clark Bible commentary and theBook of Mormon. This was in 1831, which is like three or four years before the book ofAbraham. And so when the church says this idea was unknown to Joseph Smith, you have exactly where the idea would have come from for him.
