Wilhelm's 11 year old younger brother Waldemar died from diphtheria along with one of his aunts. Wilhelm had been jealous of the little boy who was widely seen as his parents favorite. But he was a dutiful mourner for his brother and held an all night vigil at the coffin. He described the family pain as deep and cruel beyond words which is a reasonable way to react to the death of an 11 year old. A few months later Wilhelm was back to acting like a dick to his mom.
