We're Not Going to Lay Down Our Weapons Unilaterally
Nuclear weapons will go away when people agree that they are not very useful and they're very dangerous. The problem isn't the weapons, it's their exaggerated reputation. We've come to think that they embody godlike power, but they 're actually clumsy, blundering things with hardly any practical application. A treaty to outlaw them becomes easier than we've ever dared to hope. So we don't have to trust our enemies. We don't need confidence building measures. What we have to do is face the reality and get others to face the reality that nuclear weapons are not very good weapons that are enormously dangerous.
