Mariah's Life and Death During the French Revolution
In 1788, King Louis XVI assembled the Estates General for the first time in 175 years. This marks the beginning of what we now know as the French Revolution. Mariah was inspired by this budding political movement and abandoned his scientific career to write on behalf of the third estate. The National Assembly voted amongst themselves to form a government that would govern by the will of the people.
