The Consequences of Aquinas's Knowledge of God
There is a common myth, sometimes backed up with the alleged authority of philosophical history, that the existence of god is not something that can be known. I have sought to show that aquinas presents an even starker response to the common cultural myth. The whole point of theological speculation is to accept and use god's help to get human beings into deeper knowledge of god than unaided human nature and imperfect human society can accomplish. While we typically think of reasonableness in terms of our achieving knowledge, aquinas hilits the role of god himself helping us to manage another important cha of simply avoiding error.
